Global energy demands, especially electricity demands, are constantly increasing. The population growth to over 7 billion people requires significantly higher share of renewable energy sources, which are also more environmentally friendly. Non-renewable energy sources are depletable, environmentally unfriendly, since they cause various forms of pollution, as well as one of the greatest challenges in human history of humankind - climate change and global warming. In order to mitigate that effect, the use of fossil fuels must be reduced, because as long as coal, oil and gas are primary energy sources, the world will not take a necessary step forward.

Renewable energy sources will be increasingly used in Europe, leading to the reduction of emission of greenhouse gases and lower oil dependence. In pursuit of such solutions, the European Union set ambitious targets in the Directive 2009/28/EC - to reduce total energy consumption by 20%, to use 20% energy from renewables in total energy consumption and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20%. The European Union invests enormous funds in order to achieve CO2 emission reduction, competitive prices and environmental protection.
